Azure CLI Day 14 – site restart

Bash azure

In my last two posts I showed you how to stop (http://thinkfirstcodelater.com/blog/?p=3115) and start (http://thinkfirstcodelater.com/blog/?p=3124) a Windows Azure web site. In this post I’ll show you how to restart a Windows Azure web site.

Once again, just a reminder that I’m using the command line tools on a MacBook Air with OSX (Mountain Lion) installed, and I’m using Google Chrome as my default browser. However, the experience should be identical on Windows and Linux as well.

Open an instance of your command line (Terminal, Bash, Command Prompt, etc.) and type the following:

azure site restart -h

This command, like so many others, is just simple. All you need to provide is the name of you web site. Enter the following, making the appropriate substitution, into your CLI:

azure site restart “[YOUR WEB SITE NAME]“

In my case I entered:

azure site restart “antares101″

That’s it your site has been restarted. In previous posts I’ve showed you how to issue the azure site show or use the Windows Azure management portal to check the status of your site, but in this case it’s irrelevant as the site will be running.

In the next posts we’ll start examine how to scale your web site from the command line.

Did you know you can try Windows Azure for free for 30 days? Just go to http://aka.ms/thecloud and sign up.
